Bhoomi pooja is a ritual performed in honour of Bhoo devi, Vastu Purush, Navagrahas and Naga devata. Bhoomi means Mother Earth. Hence, this pooja eradicates the ill effects and Vastu Doshas in the land. It is believed that Pooja prior to the construction of any house structure smoothens out the process of construction.
The Bhoomi pooja is also carried out to beg pardon from the underground living creatures for any harm made during the construction of new home by cutting trees, dislocating the stones, disturbing the bird nests etc.
Steps involved in the Bhoomi Pooja:
- Once you secure the site from the authority, need do contact local priest so that he can look into the auspicious day and time of pooja. Ask for samagri list.
- Inform & get permission from your builder for site access for 2 hrs.
- Pooja to be done North-East direction of your site, pooja doer will be sitting facing east direction.
- Make sure the spot is levelled, dried and clean.
- Arrange some shade/ marque if it’s too sunny or rainy.
- Arrange some mats to sit on mud.
- Some Bhoomi Pooja samagri used: Navratna, Panch Dhatu/ Panch Loha, Nag-Nagini in silver, Vastu Prathima etc. You can get these from the local Indian shops.
