Aksharabhyasam is a Sanskrit word meaning initiation of education to a child by his parents and guru on an auspicious day.
Maa Saraswati is the Goddess of knowledge who is worshipped during Aksharabhyasam. The above prayer is dedicated to Saraswati. Vidyarambham or Aksharabhyasam is begun with worshipping the Goddess.
Sarasvati Puja is performed with the child in father’s lap or maternal uncle’s lap and made to write in a plate containing rice holding the child’s right forefinger.
When should perform Aksharabhyasam Pooja?
Aksharabhyasam is usually performed when the child is turning three years. Or before starting pre-school.
What are the auspicious days for Aksharabhyasam?
The whole 10 days of Navratri, especially on Vijayadashami or Dassera is very auspicious day. Also, Vasant Panchami is considered as good day. The Priest can find out if there are any other days that are suitable according to the birth star of baby.
